Why should I have an Energy Assessment and book an EPC – Energy Performance Certificate?

Save up to £115 per year if cavity wall insulation is installed in your property**.

Save up to £150 per year if the recommended of level loft insulation - now 270mm - is installed in your property**

** Data from Energy Saving Trust

Around one third of heat is lost through the walls and around one quarter through the roof of a typical home. Also inadequate heating controls and non energy saving lamps can waste energy.

Our Energy Assessors (DEAs) will provide you with a comprehensive report (Energy Performance Certificate – EPC) that will outline the Energy Efficiency of your property and the individual elements: walls, roof, windows, heating system(s), heating controls, hot water generation and lighting.

The report will also show typical cost savings that can be made if the recommendations are carried out based on “standard occupancy” assumptions.

Energy Performance Certificate - EPC

The EPC is the same document that is required when a property is placed on the market for sale or rent and it can only be issued by a qualified and accredited Home Inspector or Domestic Energy Assessor (DEA).

Recommendations made by the official government body Ofgem in 2009 stated that “It is extremely important that the identification of G-rated boilers to be replaced be conducted by an independent party. The best way to achieve this is through EPCs. Boilers for early replacement identified as G-rated; and confirmed as working, via an independent assessor and EPC”.

So why not commission an independent official report on the energy efficiency of your home including your boiler and find out the recommendations that can be made to improve it and reduce your heating and lighting bills!

Our Energy Assessors (DEAs)

Our Energy Assessors are courteous and knowledgeable and will explain the process to you at your home; they will also be able to answer any questions you may have about the survey.

Also as we were one of the first companies to have accredited Energy Assessors in the area our Energy Assessors are very experienced.

For your protection and peace of mind all of our Surveyors and Energy Assessors meet the following requirements:

  • Carry photographic identification

  • Accredited by the appropriate accreditation body

  • CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) checked

  • Subjected to regular audits to ensure consistency of reports

What’s involved in the Energy Assessment?

The Energy Assessor will collect various data from your property which is then input into Government Approved software to generate the energy report (EPC – Energy Performance Certificate) including:

  • Sketch a plan and measure your home

  • Identify when the property was built

  • Type of wall and roof construction

  • Evidence of cavity wall insulation

  • Number of double glazed windows and installation date

  • Type and make of boiler, type of flue and fuel used

  • Type of heating controls (room thermostat, radiator valves etc)

  • Loft insulation thickness

  • Number of closed or open fireplaces

  • Number of energy saving light bulbs
