Replacing your old boiler together
with an Energy Assessment will save money on your
heating and lighting bills
The Boiler Scrappage
Scheme has now been announced by Government to
encourage people to replace their old inefficient boiler
for a new efficient one. Domestic heating currently
accounts for around 14% of the UK's CO2 emissions, and
the government has set ambitious targets for reducing
these.
According to the Energy
Saving Trust there are about 3.5m homes in England with
the least efficient type of boiler (G-rated) and
upgrading these will help reduce emissions.
New boilers have
efficiency ratings of 90 per cent or more and therefore
use less fuel, emit lower CO2 emissions and most
importantly have lower heating bills.
Open to 125,000
householders in England, the Boiler Scrappage Scheme
offer of a £400 cashback voucher is open to owned or
privately rented homes.
To further reduce energy
costs homeowners and landlords should also consider
other energy efficiency measures like upgrading loft
insulation, cavity wall insulation, adding energy saving
light bulbs as well as other measures.
Now would be a good
opportunity to have an energy assessment of your
property by an accredited energy assessor to
compile a comprehensive written report that will
recommend further improvements which would result in
reduced energy costs.
